Merrifield is "on the move" with many new building projects underway or planned. Currently, Uniwest Group is developing a three-story office building at 2826 Old Lee Highway.

The office building was originally planned as the headquarters building for Uniwest, but since breaking ground it became clear that the medical community had a need for more office space in Merrifield.

The original design was modified to meet the needs of medical users. The intimate floor plate of 9,000 square feet will accommodate users from 2,500 to 27,000 square feet and will also allow signage on the building.

The building will have underground parking and the builders were able to save some mature trees, allowing a pleasant tree-lined buffer. The shell of the building is finished, allowing tenants to execute leases now. Information on this project can be obtained by calling Neil Simon at (703) 506-1800.

Another Merrifield project that has been approved by the Planning Commission is a headquarters building for Life with Cancer. Life With Cancer is an organization dedicated to assisting those individuals and their families who have been diagnosed with cancer.

The assistance is in the form of classes, support groups, etc. More information about Life With Cancer can be obtained by visiting their web site, www.lifewithcancer.org. We will keep you informed in this space when the actual groundbreaking takes place.

The next GMBA luncheon meeting is devoted to informing the Merrifield community about the three projects that are going in across the street from the Dunn Loring Metro Station. The speakers will have renderings of the proposed buildings, along with time tables for their completion.

The luncheon is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 24, at Homewood Suites on Porter Road. The cost is $25.00 for members and $30 for non-members. Call (703) 849-1200 to reserve your space.
